Ahmed Shehzad, Wahab Riaz sanctioned for altercation
Wahab Riaz and Ahmed Shehzad were slapped with fines for a heated altercation during a Pakistan Super League group stage encounter between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday.Wahab was fined 40% of his match fee while Shehzad had to part with 30% of his. Both players pleaded guilty to charges of a code of conduct breach after they were summoned by match referee Roshan Mahanama following Peshawar\'s eight-wicket win.The said incident occurred during the fifth over of Quetta\'s innings. Opener Shehzad, who had gotten off to a brisk start, hit Wahab for a six off the Peshawar bowler\'s first delivery. Wahab responded by bowling Shehzad out with a cleverly disguised slower delivery, sparking wild celebrations. The dismissed Shehzad then gestured towards Wahab with a bat prompting a verbal exchange and a shove before the other on-field players intervened to douse the altercation. Reacting to the incident, the two captains Sarfraz Ahmed and Shahid Afridi concurred in their belief that such incidents leave a sour aftertaste to an otherwise sporting encounter. \"Such things can happen in the heat of the moment, particularly in the T20 format,\" Quetta captain Sarfraz said. \"The players will have to take responsibilities to ensure that things do not go out of bounds. It shouldn\'t have happened,\" Sarfraz said.
