Consistent Yusuf powers Knight Riders ahead
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have silently pushed themselves into an extremely strong position as the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) heads towards its climax. With seven wins from 11 matches, KKR have logged in 14 points and are currently in the second position, just below Sunrisers Hyderabad on net run-rate. While it has been a complete team performance, one man’s effort has shone.
With 265 runs, Yusuf Pathan has been KKR’s third-highest scorer, but his strike-rate of 165.6 and an average of 132.50 has made him the go-to man in the batting order. It wasn’t any different on a rainy Saturday night at the Eden Gardens. Set a revised target of 66 from nine overs under the DLS method, KKR found themselves in trouble, losing both openers in the first over, but Pathan’s calm presence helped them overpower the target with 24 balls to spare.
“You could see what kind of mood I was in. I just wanted to go out there and hit everything out of the park,” a delighted Pathan told IPLT20.com, after smashing a 18-ball unbeaten 37, paving the way for an easy victory on Saturday (May 14).
